Tailor-Made Travel

Private & custom Finland tours, designed around you.

Finland surprises — Helsinki is design and saunas, the city built on water and islands. Fly north and Rovaniemi puts you in the Arctic Circle, surrounded by birch forest and silence. In winter, glass igloos let you watch the Northern Lights from bed. In summer, the midnight sun makes the forest glow.

Every Black Deer Travel Finland tour is private and fully custom. From Helsinki's Temppeliaukio Church and Suomenlinna island to Arctic glass igloos under the Northern Lights and dog-sledding through Lapland's birch forests, we build it around you — with private guides in Helsinki, private drivers and guides in Rovaniemi, and insider connections to the best huskies, reindeer herds, and clear-sky forecast watchers. The best time to visit Finland is May to August for Helsinki and the midnight sun, or November to March for the Northern Lights and Arctic activities. We book glass igloos months in advance, arrange husky safaris with experienced guides, and pair your route with smoke-sauna experiences and the kind of Sámi reindeer farm visits that feel earned rather than touristy.

Good to Know

Finland tours — your questions answered

What is the best time to visit Finland?

May through August for Helsinki and the midnight sun near the Arctic Circle. November through March is best for the Northern Lights and glass igloos in Rovaniemi — December and January have the longest dark hours for aurora chasing.

How many days do you need in Finland?

Three to four days covers Helsinki and a day trip to Suomenlinna. Seven to eight days adds Rovaniemi with glass igloo stays, husky safaris, and a few nights under (or watching) the Northern Lights.

What is a glass igloo experience like?

You sleep in a heated glass igloo, warm inside while it can be −20°C (−4°F) or colder outside, and watch for the Northern Lights from your bed if the sky cooperates. The glass roof is heated so snow and frost don't settle on it, and most igloo resorts have a sauna nearby.

How do you get around on a Finland tour?

Helsinki is walkable and has good public transport. We arrange a private driver in Rovaniemi and private guides for husky safaris and Sámi reindeer farm visits. Helsinki to Rovaniemi is about 1 hour 20 minutes by plane, or an overnight sleeper train if you'd rather wake up in the snow.

Can you see the Northern Lights in Finnish Lapland?

Yes. In Finnish Lapland the aurora shows on around 200 nights a year, from late August to early April. The darker and clearer the night the better, so we plan at least three nights in the north and stay away from town lights.

Can we visit Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi?

Yes. Santa Claus Village sits right on the Arctic Circle outside Rovaniemi and is open all year. We fit it in for an hour or a morning, around the husky, reindeer and snowshoe days that make Lapland special.
