Norway tours — your questions answered

What is the best time to visit Norway?

May through September for the fjords, mountains, and long daylight — July is warmest and busiest, September is golden with fewer crowds. November through February is best for the Northern Lights in the far north (Tromsø).

How many days do you need in Norway?

Seven days covers Oslo, the Flåm Railway, and Bergen without rushing. Nine days adds a fjord detour. Eleven to fourteen days lets you add Tromsø for the Northern Lights or Lofoten for sea eagle safaris and midnight sun.

Is the Flåm Railway worth it?

Yes — the Flåm Railway runs about an hour from Myrdal down to Flåm, falling more than 860 metres through 20 tunnels past waterfalls and sheer valley walls. It opened in 1940 and is one of the steepest standard-gauge railways in the world. Flåm, at the bottom, is where the Nærøyfjord cruises leave from.

How do you get around on a Norway tour?

We use trains between major cities (Oslo–Bergen is scenic in itself), private drivers on the fjord roads where views matter more than the wheel, and ferries for the Nærøyfjord and archipelago. Domestic flights reach Tromsø and Lofoten from the south.
